How To Use This FBA Calculator

The required inputs as a seller are sale price, cost of goods, unit weight, category, and size tier. Everything else is optional.

  1. Pick your Amazon category. This drives the referral fee percentage. Categories with tiered pricing like apparel, jewelry, beauty, baby, and grocery are handled automatically based on your sale price, so you don't need to figure out which tier applies.

  2. Enter your Package unit dimensions and weight. Measure and weigh your product to get an accurate product size tier. Most small consumer goods fall into Small Standard, which is under 1 lb with dimensions that fit a 15 by 12 by 0.75 inch envelope. Amazon calculates the FBA fee based on shipping weight, which is the greater of actual weight or dimensional weight. For dense items use actual weight, and for lightweight bulky items, Seller Central will show the dimensional weight to use instead.

  3. Estimate the Months of storage. The tool assumes a 60-day inventory turn and an average cubic footage per size tier. It's an approximation, because actual storage cost depends on your specific product dimensions, which this version of the calculator doesn't ask about.

How Amazon FBA Fees Actually Work

Amazon charges three categories of fees on every FBA sale, and as a seller, understanding each one matters for accurate unit economics. Every year these get updated, here is the 2026 Amazon FBA Fee changes and current values:

  • Referral fee. This is the percentage of the sale price that Amazon keeps for hosting the listing and processing the transaction. Most categories charge 15%. Consumer Electronics sits at 8%. Amazon Device Accessories is 45%, which is the highest rate on the fee schedule because it includes cases, chargers, and anything built specifically for Kindle, Fire, or Echo devices. Some categories are tiered, like apparel which charges 5% below $15, 10% between $15 and $20, and 17% above $20. Jewelry flips from 20% to 5% at the $250 mark. Amazon also applies a $0.30 minimum referral fee across all categories, which matters for very low-priced items where 15% of the sale doesn't hit 30 cents.

  • FBA fulfillment fee. This is a flat per-unit charge for Amazon to pick, pack, and ship your order. It's determined by your product's size tier (Small Standard, Large Standard, Large Bulky, or Extra-Large) and its shipping weight. Amazon restructured these in January 2026, now measuring Small Standard in 2-ounce intervals and Large Standard in 4-ounce intervals, which gives more granular pricing based on actual handling costs. Low-Price FBA rates for items sold under $10 run about $0.86 per unit cheaper than standard FBA rates. Every fulfillment fee also includes the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge that took effect April 17, 2026.

  • Storage fees. Amazon charges monthly per cubic foot of inventory occupying its warehouses. From January through September (off-peak), the rate is $0.78 per cubic foot for standard-size inventory and $0.56 for oversize. From October through December (Q4 peak), those rates jump to $2.40 and $1.40 respectively, which is roughly 3 times the off-peak rate. Aged inventory surcharges also kick in after 181 days in storage and scale up to a cleanup fee at 365 days, so overstocking in Q3 to prepare for holiday and then not selling through is one of the most expensive mistakes a seller can make.

What This Calculator Doesn't Account For

This calculator focuses on the three biggest line items every seller pays: referral fee, FBA fulfillment, and optional storage. There are several other fees that affect real-world profit which we left out to keep the interface fast. As a seller, you should be aware of each of them:

  • PPC advertising spend. Often the biggest line item for newer listings. As a rough planning number, budget 10% to 30% of revenue if you're driving your own traffic, higher in the first few months when you're building review volume and listing history.

  • Returns and refund administration. Amazon charges 20% of the original referral fee for refund admin on returned items, plus a returns processing fee on categories with high return rates like most apparel, shoes, and some electronics.

  • Inbound placement fees. These vary based on whether you use Amazon-optimized, partial, or minimal split shipments. Optimized is free if you meet the shipment requirements. Minimal split adds roughly $0.20 to over $1.40 per unit.

  • Low-Inventory-Level Fee (LIL). Charged per FNSKU when stock drops below 28 days of supply and that SKU has sold 20 or more units in the prior 7 days. Grocery is exempt.

  • Aged inventory surcharges after 181 days in storage, plus the 365-day cleanup fee.

  • Q4 peak fulfillment surcharge from October 15 through January 14, which is an added per-unit fee on FBA fulfillment during the holiday period on top of standard rates.

  • Overmax surcharge on Extra-Large items over 96 inches on the longest side or 130 inches of combined length and girth, which runs $17 to $25 per unit on top of the regular FBA fee.

  • Sales tax and VAT, promotional discount reimbursements, and chargebacks.

If the margin this calculator shows is thin, real-world net will be thinner once you account for those. If the margin is healthy, you've got room to absorb them. Either way, treat this as a starting point, not an end-of-analysis number.

Categories where Amazon's customer acquisition cost is highest like Amazon Device Accessories charge up to 45%. Books are 15% plus a $1.80 closing fee.

  • Yes. Amazon applies a holiday peak fulfillment surcharge from October 15 through January 14, which is an added per-unit fee on top of regular FBA rates. Storage fees also roughly triple during October through December. This calculator doesn't include the Q4 fulfillment surcharge, but does let you toggle peak storage rates.

  • Small Standard is 1 lb or less with dimensions that fit in a 15 by 12 by 0.75 inch envelope. Large Standard is 1 to 20 lb with dimensions up to 18 by 14 by 8 inches. Items larger than either tier fall into Large Bulky or Extra-Large, where fees rise significantly.

  • Yes. If your sale price is under $10, the calculator automatically applies the Low-Price FBA discount, which averages about $0.86 per unit below standard FBA rates. Low-Price FBA is Amazon's program for cheaper goods that can't absorb standard fulfillment fees and still return a reasonable margin.
